A brand-new Mitsubishi Triton is on its way, with the sixth-generation pick-up truck—marking the third generation to carry the Triton name—set for its launch in Malaysia tomorrow, October 16, as confirmed by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM).

The order books for the new Triton opened at the beginning of this month, and the model will be available in five different variants.

These include the Triton Single Cab, designed as a high-rider workhorse that replaces the previous Triton Quest low-rider double cab, up to the premium Triton Athlete variant. The estimated prices range from RM102,000 to RM170,000 for a limited time, according to the company's announcement.

The powertrains for the new model start with a 184 PS/430 Nm 4N16 2.4-litre VGT turbodiesel engine for the Single Cab variant. In contrast, the top-of-the-line Athlete is expected to feature a more powerful 204 PS/470 Nm version with two-stage turbocharging. Compared to the previous Triton Quest, the base model sees an increase of 74 PS and 230 Nm, along with the addition of 4WD and a 6-speed manual transmission (up from the previous five-speed). The flagship Athlete gains 20 PS and 40 Nm over its predecessor.

The latest Triton is larger than before, with the double-cab version growing by 55 mm in length, 115 mm in width, and 35 mm in height, measuring 5,360 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, and 1,815 mm tall, with a wheelbase that is 130 mm longer at 3,130 mm. Additionally, the single-cab variant boasts the largest cargo bed in its class, measuring 2,340 mm long and 1,580 mm wide.

The new Mitsubishi Triton aims to attract a wide range of customers, from business owners seeking a capable workhorse to lifestyle enthusiasts who need a rugged and versatile truck for off-road adventures. The inclusion of advanced safety features and technology upgrades further positions the Triton as a strong contender in the pick-up segment, setting the stage for a new era of performance and versatility in the Malaysian market.

The estimated price for the top Athlete variant is expected to be lower than the Toyota Hilux, which is priced at RM173,280 for the 2.8L GR Sport variant. Keep an eye out for the all-new Mitsubishi Triton, as its launch in Malaysia is set for tomorrow.
