NSE Kulai–Sedenak Stretch to Get 6 Lanes by 2026

Motorists using the PLUS North-South Expressway (NSE) between Kulai and Sedenak can look forward to a wider and smoother drive as early as next year. A four-kilometre segment of the upgraded expressway, expanding from four to six lanes, is set to be opened as part of the ongoing widening works.

This upgrade is part of Phase 1, Package 1, covering a 14-km stretch from Kulai to Sedenak, with a total project cost of RM249 million. Although work only began on June 28, 2024, there has been a slight delay—with the current progress at 16.44%, behind the scheduled 20.02%. However, the Johor state government is actively working with PLUS Malaysia, LLM, and contractors to get the project back on track by September 2025.

The remaining portion of Phase 1, Package 2, involves a 7-km segment from Sedenak to Simpang Renggam, with a budget of RM160 million. Work officially kicked off on June 22, 2025, and is expected to wrap up by December 22, 2027.

Looking further ahead, Phase 2 of the project will cover the stretch from Simpang Renggam to Machap (16 km). Work began on July 27, 2025, following the appointment of a main contractor. This phase, costing RM439 million, is slated for completion by July 2029.

The widening of the NSE in Johor is seen as a crucial step to easing traffic congestion and enhancing driving comfort for road users along this busy corridor.
