Perodua Dominates 2025 Car Sales, Proton and Toyota Trail Behind
Malaysia’s automotive market continues to be dominated by Perodua, with the latest registration data as of 31 July 2025 showing the brand securing the top positions for both individual car models and overall brand sales.
For the most popular car models, Perodua Bezza remained the nation’s favourite, with 55,946 units registered so far this year. Close behind is the Perodua Axia with 48,633 units, followed by the ever-popular Perodua Myvi at 40,678 units. The Proton Saga, Proton’s budget-friendly sedan, took the fourth spot with 37,485 units, while the Perodua Alza — the brand’s spacious family MPV — rounded out the top five with 26,616 units.
When it comes to overall brand performance, Perodua is far ahead of the competition, recording 199,674 total registrations. This figure is more than double that of its closest rival, Proton, which saw 82,953 units registered. Toyota secured third place with 68,784 units, while Honda came in fourth with 40,588 units. Interestingly, Chery has made it into the top five with 16,809 units, signaling growing consumer interest in the Chinese automaker’s expanding lineup in Malaysia.
Market analysts attribute Perodua’s success to its combination of affordability, fuel efficiency, and reliability, alongside a strong nationwide service network. Proton’s steady sales show the brand’s continued appeal among value-conscious buyers, while Toyota and Honda maintain strong positions in the mid-range segment. Meanwhile, Chery’s momentum suggests it could become a more significant player in the years ahead, particularly in the SUV market.
