From Zero to 570,000 Cars: Omoda | Jaecoo’s Global Rise in Just 2 Years

Chery International Group has reached a huge milestone, becoming the first Chinese carmaker to ship more than five million cars overseas. A big part of this success comes from its young brands, Omoda | Jaecoo, which are now among the fastest-rising names in the global car market.

Even though Omoda | Jaecoo only started a little over two years ago, the brands have already sold more than 570,000 cars across 44 countries, making up about one-third of Chery’s total exports. They also set a new record as the quickest new brand to pass the half-million sales mark worldwide.

The brands are also making waves in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, NEV sales grew by 460% compared to last year, hitting over 13,000 units, and by mid-year, NEVs made up 40% of all exports.

Europe is showing strong demand too. In Spain, Omoda | Jaecoo became the fastest-growing Chinese brand and the first to sell over 10,000 cars in less than a year.

In Malaysia, growth has been equally impressive. Since the arrival of the Jaecoo J7 in July 2024, the line-up has quickly expanded with the Omoda C9 (Dec 2024), J7 PHEV (Feb 2025) and the flagship J8 SUV (July 2025). In just 12 months, more than 17,000 Omoda | Jaecoo vehicles are now on the road, placing the brand among the top five carmakers in the country — making it the most successful Chinese brand in Malaysia.

Looking ahead, Omoda | Jaecoo plans to grow even further with the Omoda C9 PHEV and the Jaecoo J5, a mass-market SUV. An electric version, the E5, already launched in the UK, may come to Malaysia soon.

Malaysia will also play a bigger role as the main hub for right-hand-drive models, supporting the brand’s expansion across ASEAN, Europe, and South America.
