Proton S70 Expands With Two New Variants, Prices Expected Below RM60,000

Proton is expanding its S70 line-up with two new entry-level variants, the S70 Lite and S70 Prime, with bookings now open nationwide from 7 September 2026. The two new variants are expected to start at below RM60,000, positioning them significantly below the current S70 range, which is priced between RM73,800 and RM94,800.

The biggest difference comes under the bonnet. Unlike the existing S70 variants, the S70 Lite and Prime will use a 1.5-litre i-GT naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine paired with a CVT gearbox. Proton has yet to announce the official output figures for these two variants, but the same engine used in the Proton Saga produces 120 hp and 150 Nm.

For comparison, the current S70 variants are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 181 hp and 290 Nm, with power delivered to the front wheels through a seven-speed DCT.

In terms of styling, the new Lite and Prime variants retain much of the familiar S70 design. However, they can be distinguished by the absence of the full-width rear light bar and the addition of an ‘i-GT’ emblem on the tailgate.

Despite their lower price positioning, the two new variants still come with a decent selection of equipment. Features include three drive modes, an electric parking brake with Auto Brake Hold, remote engine start, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a soft-touch dashboard, five USB ports, a reverse camera, rear seat reminder, leatherette upholstery and anti-trap power windows.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, along with selected ADAS functions such as blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, door opening warning and rear collision warning.

Proton is also offering an exclusive early bird reward for customers who book and register the S70 Lite or Prime by 31 December 2026. Further details of the reward will be announced at the official launch.

With an estimated starting price of under RM60,000, the new S70 Lite and Prime could make the S70 more accessible to buyers who want the model's design and features at a lower entry price, while offering an alternative to the existing turbocharged variants.
