Malaysia Vehicle Sales Fall 3.2% in August 2026
Malaysia recorded 71,428 vehicle sales in August 2026, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), marking a 3.2% decline from the 73,615 units sold in July.
Compared with August 2025, sales were also down by 2.45%, or 1,793 units. Despite the slight decline, MAA said the market continued to maintain its overall momentum.
SUV sales reached their highest monthly volume of the year, with nearly 24,000 units sold in August, supported by demand for newly introduced models. Meanwhile, pick-up truck sales approached 3,000 units, making it the second-highest monthly volume recorded this year.
For the first eight months of 2026, total vehicle sales reached 530,478 units, an increase of 2.63% compared with the 516,862 units recorded during the same period in 2025.
MAA expects the automotive market to maintain its current momentum in September, despite the slight decline recorded in August.
